What do the students say?
When I came into Haverhill High, I was very unsure about what I wanted to do but my brother introduced me to the Programming & Web Development Program. I was instantly fascinated and joined despite my lack of experience. Since then I have learned how to create websites whether by coding or using a web hosting service. I’ve also learned how to code with Python and am currently learning HTML and CSS. With this program I am being introduced to so many new things that helps me step out of my comfort zone.
I’ve only been in this program for less than two years and I have been offered many opportunities. I got an internship to create this CTE website and I will also be working with a team of CTE students to introduce middle school students to STEM careers over the summer. This academy has not only taught me about technology, but also the importance of team working, organization, and leadership.

In eighth grade I became interested in the aspect of how computers actually functioned. From the programming to dragging and dropping simple phrases to navigating a character through a maze. When I looked into Haverhill High, I learned about NAF IT Academy and what it had to offer. I was captivated by seeing students code real robots to navigate through mazes from lines of code on a computer.
Throughout the four years you establish a network of friends and teachers that will always be there whenever you need them whether it be from struggling with a particular aspect of a class to anything life throws your way. This program has changed my life in indescribable ways in preparation for college and the job industry.

The NAF Academy of IT has shaped my life in many ways. Through the academy, I have been exposed to many opportunities that I would have otherwise never had the chance to experience. Professionally, the NAF Academy helped me get an internship with a tech company that led to a full time position as a data scientist starting the day I graduated high school. The job completely paid for my online college tuition, allowing me to gain experience working in the field while getting my degree in my free time.
Socially, the academy gave me friendships and connections that I will have for the rest of my life. The connections I have made have been extremely impressed with the skills provided to me by the academy. So much so, that I was invited to join the board of trustees at a local K-8 school, as well as the NAF academy advisory board. The academy prepared me for the real world in more ways than I could have expected and I’m very grateful for that.
